Works undertaken by ghd:
ghd assessed the brief and the available space. There were key areas which ghd considered were too good to remove, such as the timber play area. The key criteria was for shade as the playground became too hot in the summer months partly due to the enclosed space because of the high boundary wall.
Canopies from Fordingbridge were designed to cover the existing timber play area, allowing this apparatus to be used all year round, and for the length of the rear wall under which outdoor gym equipment was placed for fitness and an outdoor stage area with tiered seating was sited.
Shrubs and trees were maintained on the open boundary for privacy and the local community assisted with new plants for the area. The playground was re-marked out for ball games and community boards and ballet barres, basketball hoops and painted goal facilities added for different group activities.
