Project title: Cottage in Bognor
Project description: Architectural services for the reinstatement of a fire damaged Grade II listed thatched cottage.
Works undertaken by ghd:
ghd partnership Ltd were commissioned by a local building contractor to provide architectural services for the reinstatement of the fire damaged Grade II listed thatched cottage in Bognor Regis. The fire took place in April 2016 which destroyed the roof, parts of the first floor and caused substantial damage to the ground floor. A measured survey was undertaken to provide a starting point for the design process, but had been a testing process due to the non-standard use of materials and construction methods originally used around the time the cottage was built. The building is a listed building so ghd worked closely with the home owners, the local conservation officer and the building contractor to ensure that the cottage would be reconstructed to its original character and beauty. Historical data and old photographs were used in order to piece the cottage back together. This was an exciting and ongoing venture for ghd partnership Ltd.
