Client: Radian Housing

Main contractor: Vistar

Value: £16,000

Project description: The client lives in a bungalow having become paralyzed from the neck down following a stroke. The client has the use of one working arm allowing her to operate an electric wheelchair. The objective of the refurbishment was:

  • To enable the client to live independently throughout the day,
  • To allow the client the ability to cook for herself, and
  • To allow the client enjoyment of re-visiting and carrying out a hobby of cake making/cooking.

The client premises had a standard kitchen with normal width doorways. ghd visited the client within her surroundings to establish client needs and fully understand the brief. The brief is initially established by an Occupational Therapist (OT) but ghd also wanted to know/hear what the client wanted.

A measured survey and new design was established to include the widening of access doors. Research into the most appropriate materials and products was undertaken and when agreed a full specification written. ghd completed all contract and project management of the works to final completion.
